Assisting You On The Road To Recovery

The NUI Substance Abuse Program is designed to assist American Indian/Alaskan Natives, as well as all other members of the community, in the Washoe County/Carson City area through enhancing the quality of life for clients and their families by reducing substance use, building coping skills, relapse prevention skills, and mindfulness skills to avoid returning to substance use and/or addictive behaviors. The program utilizes a cognitive-behavioral approach to treatment and includes motivational enhancement/interviewing techniques to encourage and support clients in achieving their goals and objectives, and also enhancing their cultural and spiritual identity.

The Substance Abuse Program acknowledges addiction as a medically recognized illness with physical, psychological, emotional, and social implications. Treatment is geared to educating the individual about their disease, and teaching appropriate skills that are necessary to break the cycle of addiction, and helping them to move towards a healthier, satisfying, and more productive life.
