NUI's Programs
Community Health Program
The Community Health Care Program provides the following services:
- Outreach and Referral Assistance
- Community Health Services (i.e. Visiting Nurse, Home Health Care, Diabetes Checks, and Elder Visits)
- Transportation Services to Health Care Appointments
- Health Education Activities
- Exercise Program for Adults/Children
- Health Promotion & Disease Prevention (i.e. Child Wellness Screening and Immunization Clinics)
Diabetes Program
The Diabetes Program offers many services including:
- Diabetes Screening
- Diabetes Support Group and Nutritional Counseling
- Health Risk Appraisal
- Screening/Health Risk
- Nutritional Support
- Workshops/In-Services
Exercise Program
Nevada Urban Indians, Inc. clients have the opportunity to improve their health and well-being with an exercise program that is geared to their individual needs. The Exercise Program offers:
- Certified Exercise Specialists
- Assessment and Evaluation of Strength, Endurance, and Flexibility
- Aerobic and Anaerobic excercise through a program featuring treadmill, weight-lifting, and a combination of other activities
Elder Program
The Happiness for Elders Program is funded by The Division for Aging Services and provides light housekeeping duties along with companionship for N.U.I. clientele. A Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Assistant are available through our Community Health Program to provide limited services. Other services include:
- Housekeeping Services (light)
- Shopping & Bill Paying Assistance
- Meal Preparation
- Personal Care & Hygiene
- Health Care Advocacy
- Correspondence Assistance
HIV/AIDS Program
The HIV/AIDS Program is sensitive to Native Americans/Alaskan Natives who may be at risk. Our Program offers:
- Outreach Intervention
- Family-Based HIV & Community Program Counseling
- Referrals
- Prevention Education
Education Program
The Education Program provides free services for American Indian/Alaskan Native high school and middle school students. Some of the services offered includes:
- Washoe County School District (WCSD) Indian Education and Assistance
- Educational Advisement
- Personal and Social Growth
- Career Exploration
- Cultural Activities
- Parent Committees
- College Search
- Financial Aid (assist w/application)
- Pell Grants (assist w/application)
Mental Health Program
The Mental Health Program provides outpatient behavioral health services to individuals and families. Services include:
- Group Counseling
- Culturally Relevant Workshops
- Outreach Activities
- Case Management
- Referral Assistance
- Anger Management
- Parenting Classes
- Domestic Violence
- Grief and Loss Counseling
Substance Abuse Program
Substance Abuse Prevention, Education, and Outpatient treatment services are available to the Urban Indian community. Services include:
- Assessments
- Educational Sessions
- Individual Counseling
- Group Counseling
- Treatment Outreach
- Referral Services
Victims of Crime Program
The Victims of Crime Program provides the following services:
- Advocacy on Behalf of Victims
- Emergency Shelter and Housing Assistance/Referral
- Food, Clothing, and Employment Assistance
- Domestic Violence Support Group
- Outreach and Referral Assistance
- Transportation Assistance
- Legal Consultation and Advocacy
