Washoe County School District Indian Education Department
The Washoe County School District (WCSD) Indian Education Program serves eligible American Indian and Alaska Native students who are enrolled in the WCSD.  Loosely, eligible means either enrolled in a federal or a state recognized tribe, or a descendant of an enrolled tribal member/citizen.  The Indian Education Program is funded primarily through Tital VII (a federal grant) but also has funding provided by other sources.  Using these funds, the Indan Education Program is able to provide after school programs and Paiute Language Classes at target schools.  The Indian Education Program also provides free waivers for eligible students to take summer school cources through the WCSD Supplemental Credit Office, and for ACT and SAT testing fees.  Through partnerships with NUI, RSIC, and PLPT, the Indian Education Program offers advisement services to middle and high school students at traditional middle and high schools throughout greater Reno-Sparks.

National Congress of American Indians
The NCAI was founded in 1944
in response to termination and assimilation policies that the United States forced upon the tribal governments in contradiction of their treaty rights and status as sovereigns. NCAI stressed the need for unity and cooperation among tribal governments for the protection of their treaty and sovereign rights. Since 1944, the National Congress of American Indians has been working to inform the public and Congress on the governmental rights of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
