POSITION TITLE:          Licensed Mental Health Counselor
DEPARTMENT:               Behavioral Health
LOCATION:                    Reno
REPORTS TO:                Executive Director
STATUS:                          Non-exempt, Eligible for overtime (40 hours per week)
SALARY:                           Negotiable DOE, plus benefits

THE POSITION:  Under general supervision, the mental health counselor provides mental and behavioral health counseling services to urban Native Americans in Washoe County and Carson City in an outpatient setting.  Services include but are not limited to, evaluation and assessment, direct counseling, case management, treatment, group sessions, trainings, etc. This position will provide services in both our Reno and Carson City locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (the following is a partial description)
Conduct a variety of individual, family and group therapy (domestic violence, parenting, couples, substance abuse, anger management, etc.) by assessing needs and applying various therapeutic techniques; Conduct comprehensive bio-psychosocial evaluations; Interview and observe clients, family members, support systems and community agencies to assist in evaluation, assessment and development of a treatment plan.  Analyze and integrate information obtained through interviews, observations and medical/clinical records; Develop, implement, and monitor treatment plans and determine strengths and present problems; identify resources and appropriate interventions; and perform casework duties as required; Monitor clinical services to ensure achievement of treatment goals as identified in treatment plan; Document all contacts and maintain accurate case records to support the treatment plan. Enter data in appropriate software program; Participate in agency quality assurance committee and comply with requirements for periodic review of clinical records to ensure accurate recordings; Identify available resources and assist clients in accessing such; Provide clinical consultation for other professionals and families and serve as clinical expert on multi-disciplinary review team; Prepare documentation/reports to appraise the court, treatment providers and other professions on client’s mental/behavioral status and identified needs.  Maintain client statistics; Prepare/submit monthly program reports and/or quarterly letters; Develop and implement discharge and after-care plans, act as client advocate; As needed, provide training to clients and staff.  Participate in training events to maintain professional license requirements; Participate in community outreach activities and/or marketing NUI; Works closely with NUI Substance Abuse Counselor to coordinate care for clients with co-occuring disorders. .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of social work, counseling, marriage and family, psychology or a closely related academic field and one (1) year of post-master’s degree (professional) mental health counseling experience. 

Preference given to applicants possessing a Nevada license or eligibility for licensure as a Clinical Social Worker, Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, or Marriage and Family Therapist issued by the appropriate Nevada licensing or certification authority.

Must possess a valid Nevada Driver’s License; provide current proof of a good driving record; and be capable of being insured to operate a motor vehicle.

Must maintain / adhere to ethics & confidentiality standards according to license requirements

Preference will also be given to candidates with experience using the Indian Health Service’s Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) and/or other electronic health record systems.
