About the Education Program
Johnson O'Malley/Education Program is a federally funded program, through the Bureau of Indian Affairs, that provides supplementary services to Native American students, K-12, that meet their unique and specialized educational needs. The Johnson O'Malley/Education Program is not designed to replace nor become a basic support system, but it does support such basic support systems like Washoe County and Carson City School Districts, as well as, their Title IX-Indian Education Programs.
N.U.I.’s Johnson O’Malley Education Program provides during and after-school tutoring sessions. Current locations include elementary, middle and high schools in both Reno and Carson City as well as open tutoring sessions in our offices.
Each summer N.U.I. provides a FREE activities program for children ages 7-12 years old including arts and crafts projects, computer games and field trips to local area attractions.
Nevada Urban Indians, Inc., is proud to have provided scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors since 1996. N.U.I. has presented $250.00 to $500.00 individual scholarship awards to qualifying students each year.
Students can also utilize the N.U.I. office facilities to obtain information on financial assistance and scholarships as well as eligibility requirements for scholarships. The J.O.M. computer lab is available for anyone interested in searching the internet for scholarships, schools or job information as well.
Please feel free to call the NUI office at (775) 788-7600 for any education needs or questions.
