Eligibility and Intake
Eligibility for the program at this time is not based on income.  Preference is given to Native Americans, but no one is turned away because of ethnicity.

The intake process involves an assessment done by the Community Liaison before an appointment is made for a session.

 Goals

bullet

A weekly relationship group is planned to address co-dependency and other therapeutic issues.

bullet

The program will participate in health fairs and out reach activities with other agencies and programs in the community.

bullet

A weekly domestic violence group for men is planned to address violent behavior in relationships.

bullet

A weekly parenting class is planned to address parenting issues for children of all ages.

Treatment Modality
Counseling  is based on Rogerian, Cognitive/Behavioral and Interpersonal therapies but draws from other methods and techniques as needed. Individual, couple, family, and group therapy as well as case management service is provided. Home visits for families suffering the loss of suicide are provided. “Phone sessions” are also provided for individuals too ill to leave their home. Parenting classes are held on an individual basis.

The Mental Health Program uses the Accu-Care System to record treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge plans. This provides uniformity to paperwork and files and has allowed information to be more freely shared among the N.U.I. coordinators.

Referrals
Referrals from the municipal courts, tribal agencies, parole and probation and other programs in the community provide a steady flow of clients.  The Mental Health Program also receives inter-agency referrals from Victims of Crimes Assistance, Community Health, Substance Abuse, and the Johnson O’Malley program.

Workshops
A culturally sensitive workshop on Stress, Depression, and Worry has been given to N.U.I. staff. This same workshop has been given twice to a self-help group at Washoe Medical Hospital.
